German Zeltbahn Shelter Quarter - Splinter A pattern

Stock Status: In Stock

The Zeltbahn 31 (aka the shelter quarter) were issued to German forces throughout the Second World War. The zeltbahn is a triangular shaped piece of cloth, designed to be used as a shelter, or as a rain poncho when worn over the uniform. In 1929 the camouflage pattern was adopted and screen printed onto the fabric. It originally featured 62 buttons to allow it to combine it with other shelter quarters to form a tent, or close it together as a poncho. The grommets consisted of one large grommet in each corner to mount a tent pole, as well as three sets of 2 small grommets on the bottom to tie held 3 sections of rope which then attached to metal stakes. Throughout the war the Zeltbahn went through design changing to simplify production, but the basic design remained unchanged.

This is a Zeltbahn shelter quarter, a reproduction based on the version used by Germany in World War 2. It is made of cotton poplin fabric, with a screen printed splinter A camouflage pattern front side, a lighter splinter A pattern on the reverse side, with steel grommets, dish buttons, and reinforced stitched button holes. It features a double flapped opening or head slit for use as a poncho with buttons for closing.

Use as a poncho, combine with additional shelter quarters to form a tent, in during re-enactments, camping, or add to your militaria collection as a great display item.
