German Helmet Cover - Dot 44 Camouflage
[Dot44-Cover]

Stock Status: In Stock

History:
M35 helmets were generally issued in the colour that was applicable to the intended unit, however during the course of the fighting variety of methods were used by troops to camouflage their helmets. Cloth covers of various styles and camouflage prints were manufactured, they were designed to fit the basic shape of the helmet, many included loops used to attach foliage. The Erbsenmuster or pea-dot pattern (also known as Dot 44) was first issued in 1944, however the use of covers was dependent on supply. Towards the end of the war materials were running low, efforts were made to minimalism waste, redesigning existing items to be less complex to produce, creating cost efficient substitutes, using up left over materials, or even captured equipment. A debate still exists about whether or not dot covers were ever manufactured or officially issued, as there is a lack of period photos to truly determine.
