Stock Status: In Stock

History:
The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was a military decoration, one of the highest awards of Germany, second only to the Grand Cross. It was awarded for remarkable bravery in battle, successful military leadership, and also for other military contributions in a battlefield environment. It was worn suspended from the collar. The high grade of the Knight's Cross had Oak Leaves and Swords, the higher also had Diamonds. The "Swords," as the German aces called this award, was highly regarded in the proliferation of German medals. German law prohibits the wearing of a swastika, so in 1957 the West German government authorised replacement Iron Crosses with an Oak Leaf Cluster which could be worn by World War II Iron Cross recipients.
